The Blue Pool Nature Reserve & Tearooms, nestled in the heart of the 300-acre Furzebrook Estate on the Isle of Purbeck, combines natural beauty with historical significance. Initially a hand-quarried clay pit from the 17th century, it was abandoned in the early 19th century and naturally filled with rainwater, creating a mesmerising blue colour due to light diffraction. Since opening to the public in 1935, it has become a beloved tourist destination.
Visitors can explore over 30 acres of nature-filled paths and walkways, including the UK’s longest rope bridge, which spans 50 meters and offers stunning views. The reserve is also recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its abundant flora and fauna.
A favourite among families, the site features a magical Gnome & Fairy Trail where children can find tiny fairy doors and friendly gnomes, along with an adventure play area for young explorers. The vintage-style Tearooms, established in 1935, retain their original charm and offer teas, coffees, cakes, lunches, and traditional afternoon teas with homemade scones. Guests can relax on the terrace overlooking The Blue Pool or indoors by the fireplace.
Visitors can also enjoy a gift shop and a plant centre, completing the tranquil and enchanting experience at The Blue Pool Nature Reserve & Tearooms.
