D-Day Proclamation and Beacon Lighting
When? 06 June 2024
Where? Blandford
On Thursday 6th June, the 80th anniversary of the D -Day landings, the largest sea, air and land operation in history, towns up and down the country will be paying tribute to those that gave so much to enable us to share the freedom we have today.
Join us at 12pm in the Churchyard of Blandford Forum Parish Church for a short Proclamation Ceremony that we are hosting in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
The event will be opened by the Town Crier who will be reading the D-Day 80 Proclamation provided by the Pageant Master, Bruno Peek.
Towns all over the country will be lighting a beacon. The light from the beacon will represent the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.
In partnership with the Royal British Legion we are holding a beacon lighting ceremony in Woodhouse Gardens.
Join us from 8pm for refreshments and the opportunity to explore the Blandford Commemoration Group’s D-Day exhibition before the ceremony starts at 8.45pm culminating with the lighting of the beacon at 9.15pm.
All welcome.
