Tout Quarry

After opening in 1983, Tout Quarry, now known as Portland Sculpture Park, is now home to over 70 different stone sculptures.

In the days before the opening of Portland Sculpture Park, Tout Quarry was used commercially between the 18th and 19th century.

Portland Sculpture Park then opened in 1983 and was home to the practice of many stone masons, and it now offers a range of magnificent stone sculptures which you can freely view.

There are over 60 sculptures to explore, including “ascent” by Joe Hamilton.

Portland Sculpture Park

An outdoor workshop is situated within the quarry, which operates from May to September each year in order to run workshops to develop stone masonry skills.

Whilst there are many stone sculptures to observe, you have the backdrop of the ocean which is too easy to appreciate. All of this makes for a calming, interesting and enjoyable visit.

A stroll through tout quarry is something rather unique, giving a sense of life on the isle of Portland. Stone quarries and coastline views - what's more 'Portland' than that?

How to get there

Follow the A354 (signposted) from Weymouth to Portland. After following the road up through Portland to the top, take the third exit at the Portland Heights roundabout. Tradecroft estate is a little way down the road – turn right there, where you’ll find a car park for Tout Quarry.
