Dorset Breaks 2025
01 January 2025
As we head into a new year it's a great time to get planning your next Dorset break. Here are a few places you might want to seek out for your next Dorset getaway!
Attention!
Stand by your beds for this wow factor holiday let!
The Standby Generator Bunker is an impressive abode tucked away in the rural village of Ringstead, just over 7 miles from Weymouth, boasting stunning sea views and a unique history.
The Bunker was part of RAF Ringstead, a component of the Chain Home Radar, a coastal early warning system that stretched from Cornwall in the west to Norfolk in the east.
Early in 1941, the station was put into service, and it was finally shut down in 1956.
The Bunker's Grade-II listing has been taken into consideration during the recent renovation, and the original concrete walls and other elements have been kept.
The property has been transformed into a wow factor home, complete with a pet-friendly policy and a beautiful woodburning stove.
Surrounded by picturesque countryside, the south face of the bunker gives the impression of having been hit by an explosion, adding to its intriguing charm and character.

Multi-award winning hotel, a stone’s throw from Bournemouth beach!
Bournemouth remains one of Dorset’s most popular tourist resorts, and is famed for its glorious beaches. Over the autumn we took a look around the Marsham Court Hotel, which is perfectly situated close to the Bournemouth Pier and offers excellent serviced accommodation.
The hotel is family run and owned which you can tell by the attention to detail throughout. As well as a lovely lounge bar and separate restaurant, the hotel has an outdoor pool which is open most of the year, heated from May – September and available for cold water swimmers out of season! If you are looking for a hotel which understands accessibility then you need look no further. The Marsham Court is proud to have been awarded multiple awards for the facilities that it offers guests including a Changing Places facility, i-swim pool hoist as well as accessible rooms with ceiling hoists. Over the past few years a sensory room was added for guests with additional needs. You’ll find a selection of dog-friendly rooms so can bring along your pooch and for families, kids under 5 eat for free when accompanied by an adult dining with them – check for T&Cs.
We were so impressed by the level of care that has gone into looking after guests that we had to include the hotel in this little write up, they deserve it!

Everyone wants a Front Row seat!
Last year the Pensylvannia Castle Estate on Portland developed Front Rows, their holiday homes and lodges, which are perfectly situated perched on the cliff edge of the estate. Expect to wake up to beautiful sunrises over the English Channel. Portland offers twitchers the ideal opportunity to look for birds, so take your binoculars, maybe you’ll spot a Golden Plover, a Shoveler or a red throated diver! The accommodation itself offers laid back luxury, so much that you won't want to leave!
Whether you are looking for a romantic break, are an adventure seeker or just want to get away from it all, Front Rows offer you the perfect escape!

Camping in Dorset
We’re big fans of camping and with two kids in tow we are often spotted at various campsites throughout Dorset with our 6 man tent. Below is a shout out to some of the sites we have visited and why we love them!
Rosewall Camping, Osmington. Just up the road from us, and perfect for a night of adventure with the kids, great views of the sea and a friendly welcome. Nice stroll to the Smugglers Inn, one of the best positioned pubs in Dorset!
Bagwell Farm, Chickerell – Perfect for campers and loved by tourers too. Lovely site tucked away from the hustle and bustle of local towns but close enough to reach them by public transport or your own vehicle! The information room is always well stocked with Resort magazines in the spring and summer so you can be guaranteed to find the best day out!
Pilsdon View Camping close to Bridport. A great little find, they make homes for campers and hire out yurts and bell tents. We have found this site very green and luscious, with a lovely play park for kiddies. There is also the opportunity to have camp fires when using their hired fire pits, open July - end of August.
Golden Cap – Perfectly positioned just below the highest point in Dorset and, importantly, close to another delightful pub (the Anchor Inn). It’s a great site for stargazing and getting back to nature. There are no electric points for camping but you will find that the site has caravans for hire if that’s more your thing!
We are planning another camping feature nearer the spring – so don’t be afraid to share with us your favourite Dorset camping sites and maybe we will give them a mention next time!
